40 days to FIT!! Day 18… Q&A!

Hi all~ today is “Tired Thursday” and day 18 of our 40 days to FIT and day 19 of my cycle~ which means it’s time to BOOST!!  I finished off my buffing phase nicely at 127~ that’s a good weight for me considering I am on Creatine.  I feel lean…at the gym I could see lots of definition in my shoulders and arms and abs!!  FUN to see what’s “under there” and Fun to know the CREATINE is working!!

Today I’d like to share a little Q & A from my BodyBuilding.com private messages:

Question from CINDY~
Hey,Wow – you are such an inspiration to me. Please, please tell me what your daily nutrition is like–I would just love to know what you eat in a day’s time.

Also, your ab routine – would you please share!! I know we are all different, but I had two kids back-to-back (15 months apart). After my first child was born, my stomach went straight back to normal, but when my 9 pound son was born, he really did a number on me. I guess my stomach couldn’t take it so close together. I have flat abs now and I don’t mind working them, but the skin doesn’t look that hot. I have gotten it a lot tighter, but w/o having an abdominoplasty, I would like to see if I could take it to a higher level. Could you just look at my pictures, possibly, and give me any suggestions??? I would appreciate it so MUCH!!

Thanks
Cindy

MY ANSWER:

HI!!

Thanks for the compliments Cindy~ You are really kicking tail…I love what you wrote in your profile about not being too old to get results (BTW-  47 is NOT OLD!!)… You are right on!!!

…I know how frustrated you must be with your tummy, but just look at how much it HAS improved. I can see that you still have room for improvement in your progress pics for sure.

As for advice there are 2 things~

  1. lift heavy often…all the while keeping your tummy tight and engaged
  2. do abs DAILY!

Other than that…I’ve written a book “After Baby ABS” that contains my secret recipe to great abs~ I am sure you would find it helpful.

it’s available on my site www.buffmother.com

Keep working hard, your tummy will improve more and more…once you get another 3-4 months of HARD ab training under your belt, you will get a better picture of if you really have to have a tummy tuck~ that surgery is NASTY and I’d consider it a “last resort”.

As for diet-

Honestly I don’t follow a “meal plan”…never have and never will.  Here is a link to some info about my diet:

Also, I go through my diet in detai in my books~

Have a stellar Day!!

xoxoxo~

Music Moves Me!

www.buffmother.com
Do you need some inspiration?  What about listening to some MUSIC?

Music Move Me!!  It inspires me to move…to take action ~
Yesterday during my workout I had some fresh tunes on my i-pod and it fueled me to an “intensity” that I wouldn’t have attained without the beat~
I ended up doing a total of 50 mins of cardio yesterday- 20 mins on the r-bike, then 20 mins of intervals running on the treddy, then another 10 mins of running tacked onto that– in total I ran 4 miles in 30 mins.

This morning as I was channel surfing I saw the video to Daughtry’s new hit “What About NOW?”…and it invigorated me to think about how I can impact the world for good!!  Isn’t it awesome to think that WE can contribute to making the world a better place??

I am fired up as we go into September…I am focused on being a blessing…Let’s “Sow in September”.

Have a super SATURDAY~
Love,
Michelle

p.s. here are the lyrics to “What About Now”- by Daughtry

Shadows fill an empty heart
As love is fading,
From all the things that we are
But are not saying.
Can we see beyond the scars
And make it to the dawn?

Change the colors of the sky.
And open up to
The ways you made me feel alive,
The ways I loved you.
For all the things that never died,
To make it through the night,
Love will find you.

What about now?
What about today?
What if you’re making me all that I was meant to be?
What if our love never went away?
What if it’s lost behind words we could never find?
Baby, before it’s too late,
What about now?

The sun is breaking in your eyes
To start a new day.
This broken heart can still survive
With a touch of your grace.
Shadows fade into the light.
I am by your side,
Where love will find you.

What about now?
What about today?
What if you’re making me all that I was meant to be?
What if our love, it never went away?
What if it’s lost behind words we could never find?
Baby, before it’s too late,
What about now?

Now that we’re here,
Now that we’ve come this far,
Just hold on.
There is nothing to fear,
For I am right beside you.
For all my life,
I am yours.

What about now?
What about today?
What if you’re making me all that I was meant to be?
What if our love never went away?
What if it’s lost behind words we could never find?

What about now?
What about today?
What if you’re making me all that I was meant to be?
What if our love never went away?
What if it’s lost behind words we could never find?
Baby, before it’s too late,
Baby, before it’s too late,
Baby, before it’s too late,
What about now?

Domestic Diva?

Hi Ladies…
Sorry I was MIA yesterday, I was not feeling very good ~ But I awoke feeling much better today!!!

Today I have been a domestic DIVA~ groceries, errands, laundry, dishes, etc…all the stuff I love~NOT!

Yesterday I attempted to run, but that weird knee cramp happened again. It feels like my VMO is cramped up and I can’t run at all. AND there is no rhyme or reason why it happens~ very annoying!! So I ran for 8 mins, my muscle went haywire and I had to walk the rest of the way home. It was probably for the best since I started feeling ill after that.

Today’s workout will be a home upper body workout, I think I’ll do CHEST, TRI’s and Shoulders along with some intervals on the Stairmaster (thanks LINDA for the inspiration on that– good for the BUTT)

Back to the laundry and doing my dishes now~
Love ya,
Michelle
p.s. someone made that pic for me on myspace, cool huh?

P.p.s.

Did my workout
20 mins of intervals on the Stairmaster- every time I do this machine, I think, “this isn’t so bad, I should do this more”…and then I don’t use it again for 2 months, lol!

50 pushups in a row!-
housework for 10 mins
26 push ups
housework for 10 min
25 push ups
a GREAT: Chest, Shoulder, Tri workout!!

DID Legs!! 4-11-07

Did Legs despite the fact: I got a tweeky creaky back, much better than an achy breaky heart, lol–
Anyone watch “Dancing with the Stars”…man some of the dancers are so good and others are so bad! If you don’t know Billy Ray Cyrus is one of the dancers and also Paul McCartney’s ex wife- She dances amazingly well with only 1 real leg!! Quite an inspiration and all the more reason to have “NO EXCUSES”!!

Thus, I did my leg workout (even though I uberly wimpified it) with my tweeky creaky back…I did it on MON during my back workout, I think it was the donkey kicks. Does anyone else hurt your back on these?
Every time I do donkey kicks I end up tweaking my lower back- so NO MORE EVER for me on those things smile

warm up- 5 min r-bike
squats
45×10
95×10x3
leg curls (standing bent forward machine)
25×10x3
knee extensions
75×20
115×10x2
130×10
Hip abduction
50×15x3
Knee up on roman chair
25×2
16
bulgarians
15’sx10×3

that’s all…!!

Keep up the positive encouragement, It makes a big impact!
-M

A GREAT e-mail

I wanted to share this wonderful e-mail correspondence with all of you…

Jennifer wrote:
Michelle,

After receiving my latest issue of Oxygen Mag, I was
surfing the web and decided to see what inspirational
stories the on-line version of oxygen
had to offer and low and behold I have found your web
site. I’m totally and completely amazed at your body.
In fact, I’m so amazed that I can’t stop talking about
your web site. I’ve told everyone at work who needs
a little more inspiration to log on and check your
site out.

I have two questions for you. I read that you have a
nutrition andfitness background, how did you take your
unfit after pregnancy body andturn it into a sold muscle
machine? I guess my question is for a
motivation factor, what was the breaking point in
which you said this time I’m really gonna do it? And my second
question is, is it possible to discuss a sample menu when you are
preparing for a contest? I’m really curious what a typical diet
day is and a contest diet day is for you? I’m sure with four
very active young children your diet might not
be as clean as you’d like it to be.

I’ve recently within the last year have left the
corporate world, went back to school to earn my teaching degree
(after earning my bachelor’s)
and went back to waiting tables at night. I saw
your fee for on-line training and really I just don’t have that
flexible of an income to join. I work out with my husband and
pushes me hard but sometimes he
just doesn’t understand what it means to be a woman.
If you know what Imean. That’s why I love your web site!

Thanks for your inspiration and motivation.
Train hard,

Jennifer

I responded:

Jennifer,
Thanks so much for your GREAT e-mail! I really love your enthusiasm.

To answer your questions:

The point at which I decided I was going to prove you can be buff after having children came when I looked in the mirror and I didn’t recognize the person staring back at me.

I was very unhappy with what I saw and how I felt.In October of 2003, I decided to start training for my first contest and competed in March of 2004. So after only 6 months of intense training, I won the my first two NPC figure titles only 13 months after I had my 3rd and 4th children by c-section. I honestly admit that my body was not “super solid” at that point, but the best it had EVER been. I continued to work hard and shortly won 3 more titles that year.

As far as diet is concerned, you are right it is not super clean. I don’t have time to plan everything out, so I eat the best I can.
The biggest concern for me is to get my protein and veggies in daily. If I do that on a consistent basis, I see huge results. Also
learning to time my meals for workout performance has been key. My diet varies a lot from day to day and I change my focus every couple weeks,
so it is hard for me to give you a typical day’s menu. But when I am trying to lean up for a contest/photoshoot my ratios are basically 30Carb/40protein/30fat.

I am glad to hear that you enjoy lifting with your husband.
Relish that time together and continue to challenge yourself. Please join the Team BuffMother! so that we can stay in touch.
There area ton of wonderful inspirational women there who are always willing to help you get Buff!

Have a great night,
Your new friend,
Michelle
